Recently, a bill about online gambling passed the meticulous jurisdiction of Iowa senate, thus, permitting Iowans to wager online but with fellow Iowans only. This news resulted a fuse on the legalization of online poker that is still currently tangled in every state.

Iowa is a “mature gaming market that is saturated with gambling opportunities”, said Governor Terry Branstad during an interview for the weekly news conference. He also pointed out that Iowa is one of the 18 states that was given a licensed to operate a casino both land based and online. Furthermore, Iowa is operating a lottery as well as a Native American casino that was supported by a federal compact, thus the state is characterized as mature. Nevertheless, Governor Terry Branstad is still in the process of grasping the idea of poker being offered online.

Cheating, as well as corruption, are the main threats that an online player is facing every time he/she registers or log on his/her account. Governor Terry Branstad stated that they want to prevent the mentioned threats to happen not only on the players' part but for the government as well. Anyway, online wagering is the “in” trend at present. You can't prevent a person by joining one and perform elicit acts, thus implementing a law would be the best option. Governor Terry Branstad said, “I want to make sure the integrity of the state is protected in the process and we certainly want to prevent our citizens from being defrauded by unscrupulous activities.” He also added that he's not promoting the use of online gambling, instead, he was pointing the pros and cons if a poker site is illegally operating.

Consequently, as a member of the senate, he stated that: “Things could change dramatically and I think it’s important to learn as much as I can before staking out a position. I learned this a long time ago that it’s important to have all the facts and all the information and not just make a snap judgment based on an inadequate amount of information.”
